Morris Dancing in Maldon

Maldon Coat of Arms

View of Maldon

Maldon is fortunate in being the home to three sides, each reflecting a different tradition of Morris Dancing. We are a group of men and women of all ages who want to continue the English tradition of Morris Dancing and have lots of fun (and the occasional beer!) at the same time.

Generally, each side practises during the winter and dances out at local pubs and events during the summer. Why not come along and watch us, or maybe even have a go yourself!

Follow the links below to find out more about each side or for their contact details.

Alive & Kicking Dark Horse Maldon GreenJackets

Alive and Kicking is a mixed Morris side, formed in 1992 dancing in the traditional North-West Clog style. Their colours were chosen from the Maldon crest and consist of royal blue, with gold and white.
Dark Horse Morris were formed in 1995 and dance "Border" style Morris. This style is characterised by clashing sticks, whoops and shouts. We dance in traditional tatter coats, face paint and top hats decorated with feathers. Maldon Greenjackets was formed in 1988, originally with all male dancers but in 2000 became a mixed side. They mainly perform dances in the Cotswold tradition, which is the style most often identified as being typically English. It is danced with hankies, bells and sticks.
