About Alive and kicking

Maldon's Clog Morris is a ladies side, formed in 1992 which dances the North West tradition. We use sticks, ropes (mollies), garlands and of course we wear clogs.

Alive and Kicking wear Maldon's crest colours: Skirts of royal blue and gold, gold and white flowers. Our musicians play a variety of instruments such as the accordian, melodeon, banjo, snare and bass drum.

Currently the side's ages range from 14 to 64. Most of our dances are traditional but we have created some of our own.

Activities

Our dancing-out season begins on May Day and lasts until September. You can enjoy a summer's evening with us on the quay or local pub garden - on our own or with the Greenjackets.

We regularly dance outside the district at festivals such as the Rochester Sweeps Festival, Leigh folk festival and Southwold folk festival. Nearer home we will be at Chelmsford's Cathedral festival in May, and of course regularly on high days and holidays in our home town - joining in with special events like Maldon's famous pre-Christmas Victorian evenings.

We stage events of our own such as the annual day of dance and picnic on the quay and prom. Other sides are invited and a cracking party is had by all.

Participate

We are a ladies-only side open to all ages. The basic steps and patterns are easy to learn. We practice on Wednesday evenings from 8 to 10pm
